Representation of men and women

Today, we investigated media portrayals of diverse social groups and issues, with a particular focus on the detailed analysis of gender representations. Notably, we observed a prevalent trend where women were predominantly depicted in submissive roles, often portrayed as inferior or as damsels in distress. Conversely, men were presented as superior, characterized by a limited definition of masculinity emphasizing physical appearance and strength. Our exploration expanded to encompass various theories on male and female representation, including Angela McRobbie's Gender Performance Theory, Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory, the New Male Concept, and Judith Butler's Gender Performance Theory.
